Publishing statistics, research policy and strategy

This course aims to give participants insight into institutional bibliometric analyses, and how these can be used as part of the research management process.

Main content

Aims and content: Bibliometric analysis is a quantitative method which can be used to analyse production and useage of scientific publications. These anlayses can be used to map publishing activities at institutions or within certain subject areas, as well as give insight into co-authorship and "impact". This course aims to give participants insight into institutional bibliometric analyses, and how these can be used as part of the research management process. The analyses presented are based mainly on data from the national research聽 information system (CRISTIN) and commercial citation databases.

Outcomes

Knowledge:

  • Has an overview of how bibliometric analysis is organised in Norway and at 幸运飞艇计划聽
  • Has knowledge of the most common bibliometric indicators, and their limitations
  • Is familiar with principles of responsible use of bibliometrics in evaluations
  • Is familiar with how these statistics can be used for research managament
