Election to The University Board - candidate group C

Ingvild Strømsnes

Main content

ÐÒÔË·Éͧ¼Æ»® is a great workplace where we, as technical-administrative staff, get to be part of the large knowledge community that constitutes the university.

In a time of significant changes, budget cuts, and planned downsizing of staff, it is important that the consequences for and perspectives from our employee group are clearly presented.

The gap between units and hierarchical levels within the organisation can feel substantial, and the top level cannot always foresee how decisions and processes impact the units in general, and the ground level in particular.

I promise to be available for input and will work to ensure that decisions made by the university board are based on knowledge about the daily work of technical-administrative staff.

Well-anchored processes are crucial for our daily well-being, and those who know me understand that I am passionate about good workflow and the meaningful engagement of the time and expertise of technical-administrative staff.

In close collaboration with academic staff, we play a crucial role in enabling the university to fulfil its societal mission, and we are committed to ensuring that our resources support the core activities of the university.

We also seek time and opportunities for professional and personal development; recognition of effort and competence; the opportunity to contribute ideas and to have influence over our workday.

As head of administration at the Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care (IGS), I have a good overview of ÐÒÔË·Éͧ¼Æ»®. Our department is highly active in education, research, external funding, PhD education and internationalisation, and we have many contact points with the rest of the university and the outside world. In my job, I have learnt a lot about what employees are concerned with in their daily work, and I am eager to learn more.

I have a strong commitment to the University of Bergen and wish to position myself to influence the organisation. I believe that my experiences from other organisations, combined with good insight into ÐÒÔË·Éͧ¼Æ»®, enable me to contribute useful perspectives and input on ongoing issues.

During my studies, I was a student representative both at ÐÒÔË·Éͧ¼Æ»® and at the national level for several years, including a full-time position in the Norwegian Student Union. My thesis "We are the best-led university – on the relationship between elected academic and administrative leaders at the University of Bergen" received wide coverage both at ÐÒÔË·Éͧ¼Æ»® and in external media. Since then, I have followed the academic sector with great interest, and I am eager to contribute at a strategic level.

As a board representative, I will advocate for the perspectives and needs of the technical-administrative community, while also being responsible for making decisions that are in the best interest of the entire university. Short-term needs must be weighed against ÐÒÔË·Éͧ¼Æ»®'s strategy, and decisions should be both well-founded and sustainable.

The university board makes decisions that affect our daily work and future, and I am motivated to be a clear and distinct voice on behalf of Group C.
