Md Ziaur Rahman defended on July 8, 2010 his PhD thesis "Genotypic and phenotypic diversity of environmental Shigella-like bacteria isolated from freshwater sources in Bangladesh" at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Rahman has been enrolled as PhD student in a University of Bergen/University of Dhaka sandwich model as part of the NUFU-funded project "". He has performed a significant part of his thesis research work during his visits to Bergen.
