Bars have become a common snack between meals. Ingredients such as oats, nuts, dried fruits, coconut, and honey听make them seem healthy, but are they?听

PhD candidates Vegard Lysne and听Cathrine听Horn and Professor in clinical nutrition Jutta Dierkes听from the Centre of Nutrition tested 12听bars听and ranked them by听amount of sugar, calories and dietary fiber听per bar.听听

The bars differed tremendously in size and amount of sugar.听鈥淭wo of the bars contained so much sugar that it should be classified as candy鈥, explains Vegard Lysne. 鈥淎 lot of bars have a packaging and presentation that makes them look healthy and natural. Still they score vary bad鈥, agrees听Cathrine听Horn.听听
