Supervision of project-funded PhD candidates
Welcome to the Supervision Forum for PhD supervisors at the Faculty of Social Sciences! The upcoming seminar will focus on the best practices for guiding project-funded PhD candidates and explore the challenges and benefits of externally funded PhD positions.

Main content
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the recruitment of PhD candidates for externally funded projects, a trend that is expected to continue in the coming years. This trend incites us to reconsider our supervision strategies and methods, particularly regarding the degree of independence PhD candidates have in defining and forming their PhD projects.
External funding agencies often have varying requirements for PhD positions, and Supervisors/PIs must navigate diverse rules and guidelines, which can sometimes be contradictory. Despite these challenges, there are also notable advantages for externally funded PhD projects, especially in terms of teamwork and knowledge sharing.
Join us for a discussion on the best practices for guiding project-funded PhD candidates and exploring the challenges and benefits of externally funded PhD positions. Three experienced professors will share their insights and practices.
