ERC2

The ERC2 project (2017-2022) aims to understand聽what happens in the brain when people with schizophrenia are experiencing auditory verbal hallucinations, i.e. when the person experience 鈥渉earing voices鈥. PI for the project is prof.聽Kenneth Hugdahl聽and it is funded by the聽 (ERC). It`s the second time prof. Kenneth Hugdahl has recieved an ERC Advanced Grant to study auditory hallucinations in schizophrenia patients. The ERC2 project collaborates closely with the Bergen Psychosis Research Group (BPRG) headed by prof. Erik Johnsen, Sandviken Psychiatric Hospital, Helse-Bergen, and is involved in previous and current projects run by the BPRG.

To observe what happens in the brain when persons experience 鈥渉earing voices鈥 we use a MR-scanner which acquires different types of images of the brain (BOLD fMRI and MRS). The ERC2 project also aims at collecting data about what the 鈥渧oices鈥 say and how they are perceived and experienced by people with schizophrenia.

The iVoice app

The iVoice app is part of the ERC2 project and aims to acquire additional information on symptom frequency and severity, specifically how often the 鈥渧oices鈥 appear, the content of the 鈥渧oices鈥 and how controllable the 鈥渧oices鈥 are. Preliminary results show how app-technology can be a useful tool to gather real-time data, as well as help patients in treatment.
