Cardiac pathophysiology – Ischemia reperfusion
This translational research is aimed at identifying adjunctive pharmacologic treatments to enhance myocardial tolerance to ischemia/reperfusion induced stress applying both interventional and cardiothoracic experimental setups.

Furthermore, our aim is to develop novel MRI imaging protocols and sequences to be used in both clinical and experimental settings. We also have projects aimed at unravelling the cytoprotective properties of ischemic preconditioning and remote postconditioning in both clinical and basic scientific models, in addition to research revealing intracellular signalling pathways modulated by applying different cytoprotective treatments identified in our research.
