Main content

The facility in the Lynagh group currently includes the annelid worms Malacoceros fuliginosus and Dimorphilus gyrociliatus. We hope to soon extend this to include acoels .

In Bilateria – the group of complex animals with a centralized nervous system that includes vertebrates – annelids and acoels diverged quite early from the lineage to vertebrates and retain a relatively simple form. These animals, therefore, offer good experimental models for comparison with simpler non-bilaterian animals on one hand and with more complex bilaterians like vertebrates on the other.
