Holberg Prize Events 2010

Wedensday June 9 is date of Award ceremonies for Holberg International Memorial Prize, Nils Klim Prize and the Holberg Prize School Project. Symposiums, debates and Prize-lectures are held on the 8 and 10 of June. The events are open to the public.

TUESDAY 8 JUNE
09.00鈥12.15 Holberg Prize Symposium: Doing decentered history
Location: Auditorium A, Studentsenteret, Parkveien 1, Bergen
Participants: Natalie Zemon Davis, Bonnie G. Smith, David Abulafia and Joan Scott.
Moderators: Ida Blom and Erling S. Sandmo.

Decentered history is one of Holberg Prize Laureate Natalie Zemon Davis鈥檚 main interests. In a long series of books, such as Fiction in the Archives (1987), Women on the Margins (1995) and Trickster travels (2006) she has insisted on relational perspectives, a multiplicity of voices, and the foregrounding of otherwise silent or marginal actors.

16.00鈥17.00 Natalie Zemon Davis meets Jo Str酶mgren
Location: Logen, Ole Bulls Plass 6, Bergen
Moderator: Erling S. Sandmo

Historian Natalie Zemon Davis will discuss the relationship between art and science with choreographer Jo Str酶mgren. Jo Str酶mgren is artistic director of Jo Str酶mgren Kompani. Their new performance The Experiment at the Bergen International Festival is an absurd story containing a wealth of historical and political references. .

Location: Bergen Katedralskole, Kong Oscars gate 35

Holberg Prize School Project is a research competition for pupils in the upper secondary school.

14.00鈥15.00 Award Ceremony Holberg Prize and Nils Klim Prize
Location: H氓konshallen, Bergen聽

Minister of Research and Higher Education will award the Holberg Prize to Natalie Zemon Davis and the Nils Klim Prize to Johan 脰stling. Music by Paolo Pandolfo & Thomas Boysen.

THURSDAY 10 JUNE
10.15鈥12.00 Nils Klim-lecture: Den nazistiska erfarenheten
Location: Auditorium B, Sydneshaugen skole, University of Bergen

Nils Klim Prize laureate Johan 脰stling (Lund University) lectures on 鈥淒en nazistiska erfarenheten: Bearbetning och nyorientering efter andra v盲rldskriget鈥.
The lecture is a cooperatin with Department of Archeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion.

About Holberg Prize:

Holberg International Memorial Prize is awarded annually for outstanding scholarly work in the fields of the arts and humanities, social sciences, law and theology. The prize amount is NOK 4.5 million (Appr. EUR550,000/ USD760,000).

Nils Klim Prize is awarded to young Nordic researchers under 35 years within the academic fields of the Holberg Prize.

Holberg Prize School Project is a research competition for pupils in the upper secondary school.

Holberg Prize was established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003.
