Systematic reviews and meta-analyses course

CISMAC, one of 幸运飞艇计划鈥檚 SFFs, is committed to training the next generation of research leaders involved in improving mother- and child-care in low- and middle-income countries. June 2019, the CIH-CISMAC Research School hosted a course in systematic reviews and meta-analyses, as it is important that health care professionals understand what systematic reviews are, and know something about how to implement them in practice.

Students clearly felt听that there is a need for this course. Offered in collaboration with the 听and the , there were 25 students from 10 different countries.

What is a systematic review?

According to , the Cochrane network of institutions to promote evidence-based health care and public health,

鈥淎 systematic review summarises the results of available carefully designed healthcare studies (controlled trials) and provides a high level of evidence on the effectiveness of healthcare interventions. Judgments may be made about the evidence and inform recommendations for healthcare.鈥

As mentioned above, one of the partners offering this course is the , which is the Norwegian satellite of Cochrane Effective Practice and Organisation of Care (EPOC). On their website they state that:

鈥淭he scope of the Cochrane EPOC group is to undertake systematic reviews of interventions designed to improve health professional practice and the organisation of health care services.鈥
