An interest for聽global health was a big motivation for聽applying聽to聽medical school. Voluntary work for Medical Students Humanitarian Campaign really聽sparked my motivation and pushed me to look for further opportunities to learn. I decided to apply for the research track聽program聽after meeting with Prof. Ole聽Frithjof聽Norheim, a professor who聽has聽been an inspiration to me聽since聽my聽first year of medical school.

My experience with the programme聽

The聽research track programme is a unique聽chance聽to gain insight into the daily life of a researcher while聽studying for聽medical school. The programme provides curious medical students with the opportunity to finish medical school and to get a聽head start聽on PhD studies, all within 7 years. It involves one year with full time research following two years with part time research聽parallel to聽medical school.

I feel grateful for the opportunity to learn and conduct research, but also to grow as a human being within the BCEPS community.

BCEPS is not only a hub of highly skilled scientists, but also a place where students are encouraged, motivated and supported in a way that I believe must be at top聽notch聽level.聽Being affiliated to BCEPS has provided me聽with聽the opportunity to experience field trips to Ethiopia and following courses at Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, which has聽broadened my understanding of聽the international relevance of聽health care.聽The colleagues and co-students are extremely friendly and inspiring to be around, and I find the unofficial discussions in the hallway of聽鈥淥verlege聽Danielsens聽Hus鈥澛燼s valuable as the scientific programme.聽聽聽

My research field聽聽

My project: 鈥淭rust鈥揳n essential foundation for healthcare鈥 is a study exploring trust among mothers giving birth in Ethiopia.聽It highlights the importance of social relations within the field of health care, something I believe is an聽undercommunicated聽necessity for healthcare systems to reach their full potential, both in terms of quality and access.聽In my opinion, social aspects of health care deserve聽greater research attention and聽I聽hope my research can be a聽small but聽valuable contribution to it.聽聽聽

I dream of a fair and green world in which everyone has sufficient access to health care. I graduate from Medical School聽December 2022, and聽intend to pursue聽doctoral level studies afterwards.聽
